100 DAYS

Today was our "100th Day of School" celebration.  The kids bring 100 things to school. 100 Skittles in a baggie, 100 Cheerieos, etc.  It is a fun day full of counting things, eating them and more goodies at the party.

The kiddos get pretty excited about it.  These kings up there are wearing the 100 stars crowns that we made this morning.  Yikes!  Kindergartners with glue.  I un-did and re-did a few crowns that did not quite get to where they were going.  In the end, it all worked out well and the children had a great time.  But I must admit I was glad to see the little darlings hyped up on sugar get on that bus to go home.

Tomorrow we are having an all-school field trip.  We will see a ukulele group.  Promises to be noisy if nothing else.  But I have a feeling that it will be fun.  I get to ride on the bus with the lowest grades.

I can't say much for my weekend at this point.  I think I got my quota of fun in last weekend.  This one is promising to be quiet and home bound. But with a bit of luck, one of my ex-students may put the clutch in my car.  Don't worry, he's a grease monkey.  What have you all got going?

By the way... today was our 100th day of school and to me, that means that I have exactly 59 working days left in this school year.  What do you know... I might just make it out the other end.  Big grins.

  1. Happy 100th day! They did the same thing at my girls' school too although my girls didn't like eating unwrapped stuff that had been counted.

There was one teacher who used to hold a piece of unwrapped candy between her fingers and ask a question of the class. Whoever answered correctly would get the piece of candy. Many kids would answer the question and refuse the candy. Why? Cause this teacher bragged about having the shortest bathroom breaks. The kids suspected she didn't wash her hands. Turns out they were right. Ewwww.

  2. I forgot to answer your question... Mr. Cube is playing golf on Saturday, so I will get some peace & quiet, and then Sunday we're going to BBQ because it's going to be the warmest it's been for weeks. We're all sick of the cold, even Mr. Cube who was born in New Hampshire and whom we refer to as a polar bear.

  4. Kids can sense stuff. My girls complained about this teacher for years & years. I never had proof until the night of my eldest daughter's 8th grade graduation when I found myself in line for the bathroom along with several of the teachers my girls had had over the years.

The one who bragged about the shortest bathroom breaks made a very noisy deposit, said "Ahhhhh" loudly, then walked out without washing her hands. True story.

It was a Jerry Seinfeld moment for me that I will never forget.

  5. Tomorrow morning, MY WIFE and I are going to go to a local movie theater that is showing some Three Stooges shorts. I'm a fanatic, so I've sen them in an actual movie house before, but MY WIFE, though hardly a fan, is willing to see if she'll like them better on the big screen :-)

  8. George Harrison was a huge fan of the ukulele - made everyone who visited him play one. Hope you enjoyed your field trip. My son had a big 100th day shindig also, though I was a little surprised at how much he wants school to just be over. Not that I blame him, but I'd hoped he might last a little longer before the rot set in. That one is truly my boy.

It has been a school vacation week here, which means more work for me, as I have both wife and children home looking to be waited on. It's my own fault for spoiling them, but there it is. I'll have Saturday largely to myself, which is nice. Sunday getting everyone ready to go back - then Monday by 9 am, peace will reign once more.

Well, I'll still have one boy and plenty to do, but it will seem peaceful, by comparison.

  9. Cube-- I have this thing where I can't touch bathroom door knobs or faucets. There has to be at least a paper towel between me and the germs. THAT teacher is exactly the reason why.

  10. Suldog-- Sounds like fun to me! I enjoy old films. Stooges, not so much. I'd rather watch Harold Lloyd.

  11. billy pilgrim-- Well, I'll be watching it from here. I like it. Hey, the ukulele troop were from Langly,B.C. and put on a heck of a show! He even swore us in as honorary Canadians. Ha.

  12. Cricket-- I'm afraid I have to back your son on this one. I want out too. Ha. I worked while raising my kids. But there was one baby I got to enjoy for a few years. I remember how nice it was to have the others off to school. Happy chaos, but still chaos.

  13. Aw, 100 day was so much fun. This year is flying by and it is actually sort of alarming :-) Summer is very busy at the library. Then again, so is the school year. And at least in the summer I can ease into my day a bit more humanely.

  14. laura b.-- I am really looking forward to my early morning sunrises that please me so much. They are almost here. I cannot wait.

We had a blast today. I got the hyper kids to sit by, which demanded constant reminders of how to behave in public but they were fun and funny and very dear... just in perpetual motion. Ha.

  16. What have you all got going?

I've just been kicking back and taking it easy. Tinkering and screwing around, got the remote control for the camcorder working really good now.

Did you get permission to post pictures of others kids on your blog? Just wondering.

  17. Billy B.-- I am not doing too much. Just stuff around the house that needs doing.

Good that you got your camcorder going.

Yes, they are all the children of my ex-students who are friends. I've known these since they were begun.
