Okay... it's been one of those days where I feel like I am dealing with the wake left by everyone else and have lost control of my own life.
So, because it calms me... the ocean is good for that... and because I like them... here are some photos of a happier day.
When I feel stressed, like today, I listen to music that reflects how I feel. Generally speaking it ends up being punk, since we are talking about stress. I find it useful to get rid of anxiety. I sing. I dance. I get it all out. I know it is not everyone's cup of tea. But I'll take mug after mug, thank you!
People close to me seems to be having a hard time in one way or another. I sympathize but have no magic wand to wave to make things better. That frustrates me no end. I like people to be happy. I want to help, but can't. Crap. You'd think at my age that I would have some wisdom to impart. I don't and "hang in there" is a weak response. All I can do is be there... listen, listen, listen.
Otherwise a blissfully dull day. I got some laundry done, a bit of housework. Did some emails that I have needed to get sent off to people who have more patience than I do. I did get an email from V about our day yesterday. That was nice. I cleverly left a jacket in his car. Oops. DH laughed at me when I told him... said , "You always leave something". Sadly, he is correct. I do often leave things behind. He teases me by saying I do it on purpose. Nope. Just a ditz brain sometimes. V said that it gives him an excuse to come back again. I liked that.
My pond was fairly quiet today and tonight. A few emails. Perhaps things are winding down. That's okay. Still missing my favorite over-worked frog.
Tomorrow its back to the grind. My voice is back for the most part. Still sound like some old smokey throated broad. I'll be back teaching reading and doing my story thing. But I have to tell you, no voice or not, it was nice to have that four day weekend.
What do you do when you are stressed?
Aren't oceans restful?
This is my get your frustrations out song. Enjoy.

Often, being there and listening is enough, or even more than enough.
ReplyDeleteThere are two kinds of friends: the ones who want to tell you how to run your life and... well, I'll be damned if I can remember the other kind.

I've often cleverly left things in others' cars. One time I was incredibly clever and left mine AND my wife's phones in a car.
ReplyDeletei think a walk by the ocean would do very nicely. i'm soothed by the forest but a walk anywhere by myself is good too.
ReplyDeleteCricket-- I like the quote. I know you are right about listening too.
ReplyDeleteMo.-- A kindered spirit! Glad to know I am not alone in the oops world.
ReplyDeletelime-- I love walking in the woods too and do it when I can. But I have a phobia about being in large open places alone, which is why I walk inside the school. Oddly enough, walking alone at the ocean does not have that affect on me.
ReplyDeletea quick trip to trafalmadore does wonders for my stress. ms wildhack knows her stuff.
ReplyDeleteI love the ocean and find it very peaceful. I also find comfort in pondering the night sky and thinking cosmological thoughts about the wonders of the universe.
ReplyDeleteMr. Cube made a fire in the fire pit two nights ago and it was very soothing, despite the cold.
High mountain hiking is it for me. I love oceans too, but for me, quieteness plays a big part in the 'peaceful' level of a place.
ReplyDeletebilly pilgrim-- Ha! I bet she does.
ReplyDeleteCube-- Oh I love a fire pit and being outside at night. That sounds wonderful.
ReplyDeleteKenV-- I know what you mean about the peace of a place depending on quiet. But I must say when I hiked up that big waterfall the other day, the roar of the water and the motion were both surprisingly calming for the sound level.
ReplyDeleteWhat do I do when I'm stressed?
ReplyDeleteHonestly, the best stress-reliever I know of is sex. It's better with someone else, of course, but getting off in any way, even just by your lonesome, surely helps to relax a person.
Other than that, I sometimes hit things - inanimate objects, not people. I've punched a few walls and doors in my time. Made me feel better every single time but one...

Suldog-- Hahahaha... great story! Thanks for the link.
ReplyDeleteI used to smash things in the past. Mostly glass things.
But then we started to recycle glass and the surplus ran out. There is something calming in destruction.
Suldog-- I am going to have to agree that sex is the best method though. Ha. Leave it to you to bring that one to the table!
ReplyDeleteI always run to relieve stress, of course. If I can follow that run with a long hot bath, so much so's the better.
ReplyDeleteI have this little white pill...
ReplyDeleteNaw. I exercise, too. We're all too sensible for our own good.
Enjoy this lovely day.
Churlita-- That's a good method. I like the hot bath idea too. Aaaaaahhhhhh...
ReplyDeletePeggy-- Remember when exercising would not have crossed our minds as something we actually wanted to do? Speaking of which... that waterfall I climbed? My legs have turned to rubber noodles today. Sigh. And I decided to walk home from work today. What was I thinking?
ReplyDeleteFrog populations seem to wax and wane, I've found.
ReplyDeleteOceans are perfect, but in a pinch a good lake or creek will do. And I'm with you about punk music - Green Day soothes my soul!
secret agent woman-- I love the sound of water in all its forms.
ReplyDeleteIts funny, people often look at me and look confused when I say I like punk. I don't get that.
Okay... it's been one of those days where I feel like I am dealing with the wake left by everyone else and have lost control of my own life.
ReplyDeleteI've learned to see those things coming and how to avoid them.
What do you do when you are stressed?
Depends, but there so little of it in my personal life because I control my life, and not others, that it's not an issue to deal with when it does show up, just some little thing to deal with and get out of the way.
Of course it's not my nature to kiss everyone's ass to get along with them. It's like, "You're fucking up and fucking up my life so just get away from me."
Of course as you well know, it's not my nature to hang out with women that don't listen to me and take my advice.
It's the big picture that stresses me and I deal with it with camping.
Anyway, I bought a new 20 ton gas powered wood splitter today. Gas powered in case I find property in the country or if the grid is down for a while.
But I bought it on my terms, 12 months no interest, take it or leave it, they took it.
Billy B.-- Well we all fall down at some point. I do my share. I care about these people. What upsets me isn't that they have problems, but that I can't do anything to help them.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you made a good deal. Camping is a great way to get rid of stress. I don't do it enough.
Lady, I don't care how much you love others, even if they are your inbred sperm cells, you can't fix their lives, only they can do that.
ReplyDeleteInteresting though that the female monkeys (generally speaking) on this rock are the only species that get all protective about their off spring after they become adults, as if they are something special when they are not.
If someone keeps falling down, someone needs to figure out why, and do something about it.
ReplyDeleteOr pray to god for help, ha ha ha ha ha ha
ReplyDeleteBilly B.-- Everyone makes mistakes. That does not mean that they are the same mistakes and sometimes stuff happens beyond your control. Just saying.
ReplyDeleteWomen are not the only ones who care about their adult children... and not all women do. I don't agree with that generalization.
I am familiar with the sort of frustration you're feeling, I think. I am not always very good at dealing with stress. I tend to way overthink things.
ReplyDeleteI agree, though, that doing something physical like walking or dancing is an excellent way relieve stress.
laura b.-- Well, it's what I do... dance like a crazy thing. I don't even think for a time. I do walk too sometimes for stress, but most of that is just cause I love it. :-)
ReplyDeleteI overthink things too...obsessive I am. I know it and I can't always control it.
