and growing up in Tasmania.
Then we crossed the bridge again and drove down river to this great waterfall. We hiked up this monster. It is so steep! Lots of switch-backs and benches to use to rest on the way. It's 611 feet tall. The spray turned my hair into scary frizzy curls. Oh well.
It made for a lovely day that I enjoyed very much.
This is not the first time I have climbed this falls. When I was pregnant with my first son, he refused to leave the comfort of mom and enter the world. They induced labor and even that refused to happen. Friends suggested all sorts of things and none would work. Finally a friend drove over, told me to get in the car and drove me here. She then waddled my unhappy roundness up this waterfall. Halfway up, it became clear that she had the right remedy and we waddled back down, huffing and puffing. Even then he had to be dragged out in the end. But I will always think of his story every time I pass this waterfall... which is with great frequency. Today on the way down we passed a very pregnant woman and I had a good chuckle. I hope it worked out as well for her.
Not a bad day for the climb. It was cloudy but not too cold. I should have taken a photo from the top... you can see forever up the gorge and the river was tipped with white caps. Very pretty. But I was into the conversation by then, my camera forgotten.
Home again later, good-byes said... I made myself a nice drink and toasted my day. I don't like to drink alone usually, but DH was there online and we chatted and sipped away most of the evening. I had a brief call from LA, who is really working down to the wire on his job. Way too many hours for me. I don't know how he does it. I got a quite a few emails and that was nice. Several from C4C. All in all, I was happy with my entire day and evening. I have that good kind of tired that comes with exercise and a sense of satisfaction. I only wish that I could have talked to LA longer, but hey... you gotta do what you gotta do.
What did you do this weekend? Tomorrow I have big plans... housework and laundry. Weeeeeee
Now for a bit of Fall Out Boy... enjoy!

Those are beautiful falls. It's just too cold to be out here.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you had a nice weekend. I love the pregnancy story. I even shared it with my sister when she was in the throes of delivering my nephew Logan.
ReplyDeleteMe, I'm freezing my a$$ off this weekend. It has been unusually cold and I miss my t-shirts and shorts. I don't mean to whine, but I am a tropical flower. We don't handle cold too well.
BTW it sure is a shame that you had to resort to comment withholding. It disrupts the natural flow of your blog, you know.
ReplyDeletesecret agent woman-- Wouldn't you know that today the sun came out?
ReplyDeleteCube-- I know how you feel I was raised in 111 degree heat. I am not a fan of cold. When V was telling me about Christmas in summer as a kid... I was thinking... that's the holiday for me.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about the comment natzi... I think I have removed it. I hope so. It was driving me bats.
ANYONE-- IS THE COMMENT NATZI STILL THERE? I CAN'T TELL.
ReplyDeleteI'll let you know in a moment.
ReplyDeleteYep. It's gone.
ReplyDeletePeggy-- Yay! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteDumb Potter's Hell's bridge.
ReplyDeleteI call that the bridge of da dorks. It doesn't mean I don't like, I do, life slows down going across it.
I can't say that I recall that falls, but maybe I'm just having a brain fart.
I mostly just messed around this weekend. Did some things for Helen and finished making the snowplow and started making some duct for the heating system in the camper so I have better heat circulation in it when I go camping this next weekend.
Billy B.-- That sounds like a good weekend for you. I know you like working on projects. Glad to hear that Helen is in good hands.
ReplyDeleteBilly B.-- That waterfall is down river from me about 15 miles. It is one of the biggest tourist attractions in the area. A forest fire nearly got the old lodge about 16 years ago. The rock work there is fantastic. Built when Delno was in office and making work for people.
ReplyDeleteYou would enjoy the nature there. Not that many make it up that climb.
Sorry to get sidetracked by one detail...but V sounds nice...is he in the running?
ReplyDeleteAnyway, sounds like a wonderful day, a great weekend. Cheers!
laura b.-- I like V, he's funny, fun and very interesting. However, the drive he takes to get here is a bit over 4 hours each way. That is a problem. I'll be happy to see him anytime he is willing to make that drive. We'll see how that goes. Yeah, there is real interest there. I can only speak for myself though.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a nice date and a great day. I would love to go out with someone who was into hiking and talking. Those kinds of guys are rare in these parts.
ReplyDeleteChurlita-- They are non-existant here. He was a great date. One of those people you are instantly comfortable talking to and very polite. He opened the car door for me and when I thanked him, he said "Chiverly isn't dead, it just smells a bit funny." Gave me a good laugh. His accent and manor of speech were interesting too.
ReplyDeleteThat fall looks unreal!!! really feels like another world. I can't wait to visit the northwest.
ReplyDeleteSebastien-- I know I bitch a lot about where I live, but it is a beautiful place...and I had a great time climbing the falls. There is another falls close by where you can walk under the waterfall... that's our next hike when he comes down.
