Short and Sweet

First, a traditional blessing...

May St. Patrick guard you wherever you go,
and guide you in whatever you do--
and may his loving protection be a blessing to you always.

Okay in my home this is a day for respect for our heritage, family and fun. We'll be having corned beef and cabbage and watching movies... Darbie O'Gill and the Little People, The Quiet Man and last but not least, the more modern Snatch. Good food, laughter and the most important people.

Today I wish for you the awareness of the love of your family and a day rich with the blessings that brings.

  1. That sounds wonderful. I almost forgot about St Patrick's Day this year. I went out last year and had a blast. But this year, I'm hanging at home with my daughters. It's a work night, so I couldn't get too crazy anyway.

  2. Very nice. Sounds like a great day and hope you enjoy it. Besides all the great things about St. Patrick's Day it is also Mrs. Shife's birthday so we never have a problem finding people wanting to celebrate her birthday.

  4. Mr. Shife-- Happy Birthday to the Mrs! Tell her I'll lift a glass to her tonight for many happy birthdays to follow.

billy pilgrim-- I am thrilled to be Irish, as you can tell. I just saw a Pogues cover band (see my last post)and we had a ball. Lovely, lovely, lovely as they say. They'll be singing at our place tonight too.

Hey, the book is great... thanks again.

Churlita-- Family is the best fun I ever have.
Wow, poor grammar there, but you know what I mean. Enjoy those beautiful girls!

  6. I dated a girl once whose favorite band was Pogue Mahone... before they called themselves The Pogues. I've still not heard them, but I recall that they had a memorable record album title in "Rum, Sodomy, and the Lash". Derived from a Winston Churchill quote.

  8. dmarks-- lol Now my curiosity is piqued and I have to get my hands on that one. I almost bought a shirt with that special guy with those teeth on it this weekend. Do you know what I am talking about? billy pilgrim does. In fact, billy pilgrim's got a Pogues video today that I enjoyed very much. I can't think of his name, the special guy with the teeth, but he's the lead singer. Proud of those teeth I hear. It was a KMRIA shirt as a Pogues cover band, not a Pogues Mahone or just Pogues shirt.

Enjoyed your Sheila's comment, the Irish born gal... doesn't it figure? Leave it to the crazy Irish-Americans to party it up so much. ha. We will celebrate anything, speaking for myself and others I know. The rest of you I.-A.s are on your own.

Citizen-- Is that the movie with Leo DiCaprio in it where he is that guy who impersonated all sorts of folk and ended up going FBI specialist?
We loved that movie. Family movie time is wonderful isn't it? What would we do without our boys?

All--Happiest of ST. Pat's to you! Your comments have sure made mine bright.

  9. dmarks--What the heck do you suppose Winston was talking about when that quote came up? Now I have to look it up too. ha.

  10. Oh. It's pretty funny, actually. But it turns out that Churchill never said it, I find out now. The quote is "The only traditions of the Royal Navy are rum, sodomy and the lash"

Is Darby O'Gill the movie with the car in it that had gnomes?

  11. dmarks--It was Sean Connery's first film. A disney masterpiece when they still did them. The mountain opens up.(Very cool.) Great Irish fiddle music. A death coach comes for Darby and of course, Sean eventually gets the girl who allows him to catch her. Very sweet. The way little girls believe that life will be and then wonder what the hell happened once they grow up. There's wee King Brian, the Leprechan king that Darby catches and uses to make sure that his daughter falls for Sean. A sacrafice of gold for love...
It even has a scary banshee. What more can you ask for? I think the one you're thinking of was The Gnomemobile.
