Flogging Molly - Black Friday Rule

'Tis Friday. I plan on celebrating by playing Flogging Molly all day at work... my LAST day at work until fall. Very cool beans.

A thank you goes out to the great "green bean", Jay who turned me on to several CDs, my Flogging Molly(s) among them. BTW a green bean is something he calls himself... because himself is half Mexican and half Irish. I did not make this up. If it is politically incorrect, blame the green bean! I have two other green beans in my family... Michael and my mini Michael. If this keeps up we'll have a whole can! Tasty fellows.

My boss decided to go evil on me yesterday and gave me the spiffy job of sorting all the "surplus" text books. That means all the books that our school no longer needs because we closed our high school. Yeah... a bazillion of them. I have to sort and catalog them, take an inventory. They are books... I am the book lady. Swell. I am feeling abused. Crap.

I feel all whiny and crabby. Down right pissy if you must know. I should be on cloud nine. . Just stay out of my way for a bit and no one gets hurt. (The spell checker wants me to substitute "pussy" for pissy. I refuse! Good lord!)

On the bright side. True Blood's new season begins on Sunday. I am so looking forward to that! Hope your day is happy.

  1. Flogging Molly rocks! It's the worst day since yesterday!

Have fun with the leftovers! Books that is.

  2. crazy4coens-- That they do!

I detest these left over books. How am I supposed to know a current, good math book from a hole in the ground? Okay, that's not going to work. I know what a hole in the ground looks like. I'm lucky I can add using my fingers and toes. Geezzzzzz

I think this is the worst day since yesterday!
Well, they have to put up with my singing along. That'll show them.

  3. I hope that annoying stuff goes away quickly, so you can enjoy True Blood in peace. A guy in my town is the executive story editor for it, and anytime I see him, I'm so tempted to ask him what's going to happen next. As you know, restraint is not one of my strong suits.

  4. Churlita-- How cool is that? I'd be tempted too.

I'm actually ahead of the series on HBO via the books. But they are different. In the books, she does not have a best friend who is black. That character is a minor one who works in a store where Sookie buys clothes. So I figure they will still have surprises for me.

BTW that lack of restraint is a quality that I like.

  5. What will become of those textbooks after they are sorted and cataloged?

Good song, they sound like a cross between a tradition Irish band and The Dropkick Murphys.

  6. aliencg-- I adore the Dropkick Murphys... you have said the golden name of music and life philosophy! Other readers are likely sick of hearing me go on about them. You have made my day. Yeah, it's a great song and they have tons more!

Those sad textbooks will go to our district clearing house and if someone at another school can use them, they will get used. If not, I shudder to think... incineration?

  7. in our district books we don't use anymore go to the textbook warehouse, where all good curriculum goes to die.

  8. crazy4coens-- Boss man said something about selling them to recoup some bucks.

  9. If you're going to be selling the textbooks, let me know what you got. There might be something I'm interested in.

  10. aliencg-- What subjects are you interested in? Let's see... I've cataloged algebra (pre, I and II books), geometry, World History, World Geography, college level dictionaries, Complete Works of Shakespeare, Oregon Law, Human Rights.
There are others I'm not recalling. I can find out how much he wants for them.

  11. Wow - now that's innovative - districts actually trying make money? Wow - I am impressed.

  12. crazy4coens-- I think that's boss man trying to make some bucks to help fill in what was lost. Districts, near as I can tell are big lazy dogs.

  13. Flogging Molly! I forgot all about them! Thanks for the reminder Ananda.

And I'm not so sure I'm comfortable with a black market for text books...although I'm sure it could be very lucrative if you got into college texts. Hmmmm...there's an idea.

  14. 3GirlKnight-- I'm so glad you enjoyed the Flogging Molly!

I know no offense was meant... but let's clear this up...I would not, could not sell black market items. It would have to be all above board.

Yikes. My boss would be the guy who made any decision on the matter and he is a good, honest man. I'm sure he would get district permission if that was an option.

Rest assured good ethics rule here. Thanks for the concern. :-)

  15. Aw, the problem with text books is how quickly they become obsolete. Maybe not for someone who just wants some general knowlege stuff, but for schools. I am betting their time is done.

Anyway, Ananda Girly Girl...I hope you feel all better very soon. Back to Cloud Nine with you!!!

  16. Oh! PS- I am sooo excited about True Blood starting again! Yay!

  17. laura b.-- You are so right about text books. They tend to be out of date by the time they get to the classroom. But some things... like math... the rules do not change.

Yeah for True Blood! Have you read any of the Southern Vampire Mysteries? I've read the first four. In fact, now that we do not have a high school, I am pulling them from the shelves. They are not okay for middle school. Parents would stake me! ;-)

  18. I have no clue what Flogging Molly is. There were videos that wouldn't open and I'm in the dark. I would like to know...

  19. Cube-- There... I added in two links for you. I hope they work. I tried them and they seem to work. But you know, oodles of funch has it's own ideas about what it will or wont' do. I'm hoping it cooperates for you.

  20. They are a punk rock band that are truely a combo of traditional Irish and Dropkick Murphy's. The lead singer is so ugly (a face made to sink ships - or some such quote - that he is cute cute cute!) Check 'em out on youtube - they truely rock!

    ReplyDelete
  21. crazy4coens-- You know its funny, when i first heard the line "a face made to sink"... I thought it was written and sung by Shane McGowan... who I also assume wrote "I'm ugly and you know it". Perhaps not. I'll have to check it out. I think these things because McGowan is well known for believing that he is ugly. How sad that such talented folk believe themselves ugly. Beauty isn't just looks.

    ReplyDelete
  22. crazy4coes-- Yep, just checked it out and it's all Flogging Molly. How funny. I mean I knew it was on the Flogging Molly CDs but...I thought they covered it. Well, learn something new everyday. "There you have it!" as ugly guy says at the end of Every Dog Has His Day.

  23. Ananda - I didn't know who wrote - but it certainly seemed appropriate!

    ReplyDelete
  24. crazy4coens-- Indeed it does!

Glad to hear from you. Hope things are okay and not too stressful.

I did look it up in wiki but it's as good as its contributors. It seemed to feel that it was Flogging Molly's words. They know more than I do, I'm sure. Big grin for ya!
