THURSDAY AGAIN

Yesterday after dropping Max off to begin his life, I came home to an empty house. Squeaky has gone to stay with the Bear for a few days. When he returns, Bear and I will brave P'land once more to take Squeaky to stay with his friend for a month. I guess I'm getting a crash course in living on my own again.

So I was farting around on the com
puter, as I like to do and began to run across more 80s stuff. I managed to nab a great video. You'll see it at the bottom of the post. But then I began to think of all the great movies we watched then. Here's a short list:

Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Does this need to be explained?

The 'Burbs - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A group of not quite normal neighbors become suspicious of their new weird neighbors. Don' they look normal?

The Dark Crystal - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It's a Muppet movie!

Labyrinth - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A girl resents her step-brotherand wishes that the Goblin King would come and take him away.

Vincent D'Onofrio - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Edgar suit"

From Men In Black... not an 80s movie.

But this one is!

Adventures in Babysitting - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

  2. laura b.-- No surprise there! You are welcome. Other people have to like this movie as much as I do! And it's got Vincent in it as THOR... look at how young he is! ha

  3. You've made me realize that I have a lot more work to do when it comes to movies of the 80's. I may have to return to the 80's for another week just to cover movies. You've done well in your participation this week. Thanks for playing.

  4. I'm a science fiction/horror fan so I tend to remember ones like Aliens and The Lost Boys more than stuff like Stand By Me or the movies you mentioned.

My house is so hectic that I welcome those times when it's quiet & peaceful. I hope you get comfortable with the quiet.

  6. Cube-- StbX is into comedy. I never thought in a million years that I would enjoy a movie called Adventures in Babysitting. But I love this one and it's got a Thor in it!ha.

I read just about anything and I do the same with movies. Like you, I prefer sci fi and horror. But you'd shudder at the movies we watch... Sixteen Candles (at least once a month for Bear), Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Lots of horrible sappy crappy things that girly-girls like.

  7. Cube-- Actually, I ended up having a lot of fun last night, chatting.

The big thing about quiet with me is that I hear stuff. Then I wonder what it is and I can't not go look.

I'd be one of those idiots in the horror film that you say to yourself... don't go in there... are you nuts! So I hear a sound and then I scare myself good while forcing myself to make sure all is well.

I'd shoot someone if I had a gun, so I keep a machete handy. ;-)

  9. Maybe some day I will see "Ferris Beuller".

There are few movies I like better than "Dark Crystal", but I did not think near as much of "Labyrinth" when I saw it.

  10. laura b-- Thanks!

dmarks-- I love the Dark Crystal. We have about worn our VHS out. Time to get a DVD of it. I do enjoy all Muppet movies, but DC is the best!

  11. Sometime I should search for the SNL skits that supposedly were the start of "Dark Crystal". They are probably already on Youtube.

  12. dmarks-- I didn't know about that. That would be great for a post!

  13. It is really called The Land of Gorch. I remember when "Dark Crystal" was being developed, someone said that it was inspired by Gorch. I looked it up now, and don't see much that s "Dark Crystal" like, other than the forbidding-looking planet the Gorch characters live on, and the fact that they are largely disgusting and much more realistic looking than usual Sesame Street-style Muppets. Perhaps Gorch was a step away from Kermit toward the artistic style of "Dark Crystal".

  14. dmarks-- Thanks for the link! I remember that.

You're right, they don't look as sophisticated as the puppets in The Dark Crystal.

Only the one sitting with Candice Bergman reminds me of the DC at much all.

  15. What? Were there no good movies in the 80s?? :)

  16. I loved Bill and Ted - maybe cuz I was busy raising boys! (Is it any wonder they get burn holes in their clothes?)

  17. secret agent woman-- LOL you wouldn't thinks so from the list. But these were fun... not quality... but fun.

  18. crazy4coens-- Nope. It is not wonder at all. Yeah, I'm just as guilty.

  19. My girls were obsessed with Adventures in Babysitting when they were younger. I better not let them watch Leaving Las Vegas or they will be so disillusioned by Elizabeth Shue.

  20. Churlita-- That was shocking wasn't it?
