Anyway... so you could see how this guy operates... I copied the conversation and brought it to you. It fascinates me that anyone can expect me to be that stupid.
This guy... I meet like the other frogs. So we have been talking for a few days... he did at least take a bit of time to set that part up. Then he says he has to go go Dubai on business... drops hints about how it is dangerous there for Americans... duh. Has his mom (and her little dog too! Extra pity points for that!) Long story short, they are stranded and starving. Begs me for help. When I sat I can't help... because I have no money and no credit cards... he gets pissed and tries to bully me into sending him money... borrowing money... So I told him I wasn't falling for his scam, pulled the plug and blocked him.
Here is our conversation today.

still there?6:02 AMi guess you left. okay6:03 AMbye
Boy it takes a lot of balls doesn't it? I have re-blocked him. But it's like a train wreck. Hard to look away. Well, I hope you all have an interesting Tuesday... mine certainly has begun that way.
Hey... AlienCG... can he have attached cookies or something to this and gotten into my stuff? Should I worry? Nothing bad happened to me before... but you know, I am clueless about a lot of stuff.
Does anyone know where you report stuff like this? What do you suppose he wanted me to pick up and mail? My luck it would be something terrible... like cell phones to set off explosions... but maybe he just wanted my information. Too weird.
ZING>>>>>>>>SSSPPPPLLLLAAATTTT!
The rest of the pond is serene. They are well behaved and nice seeming guys. I am enjoying conversation with them. This weekend I have plans. One of the new frogs lives near Larry but does not know him. That might be too odd for me, I am not sure.
But who knows where that may lead. Lots of dead ends out there.
Yikes!
ReplyDelete(That's about the best I can do. I know it doesn't do it justice...)
Suldog-- Yikes indeed. Amazes me.
ReplyDeleteI think you are best off blocking him like you did and just reporting him as spam. I get requests like that all the time and they are just trying to rip you off anyway they can even if you don't have anything to give them. Just put him in the past, move on, and enjoy the rest of your week.
ReplyDeleteodd odd odd. can't believe you spent so much time chatting with him! But yes, follow up. Odd that you blocked him adn he was back!
ReplyDeleteIt makes me sad that some people fall for it.
ReplyDeleteShife-- Good idea to report him as spam. I did not think of that. But I did block him. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI will do exactly as you say... especially the enjoying the rest of my week part. I hope you do too.
That was creepy. I would report him to the server that supports your blog, just in case.
ReplyDeletePamela-- I just couldn't believe that he showed back up. Wondered what he would say to try and con me this time. I should have just hit the block button.
ReplyDeleteI agree that its sad that there are women who fall for that. They must be very very lonely. How tragic that there are women who are so desperate for companionship that they accept someone like that. The first time he showed up as soon as he asked me for money I told him to get lost. Then he tried to bully me... and I figured out how to block him. I was stunned that he found a way to show back up... or that he had the audacity to even try it.
Cube-- Good idea. I will do that. Yes, it is very creepy.
ReplyDeleteHey, kid, I know men who fall for this scam, too. Only the scammers are men who pose as Russian brides. We have a mutual friend who actually believed he had found his dream come true. I warned him repeatedly but he had to find out the hard way./
ReplyDeleteWish there were some way to stop these scammers because not everyone is as smart as you are. Unfortunately.
Peggy-- Wow, I always laugh at the Russian Brides thing... now I won't. It's terrible that your friend got hurt.
ReplyDeleteI wonder why there is not someone out there making money off of exposing and removing these people. I am not clever enough to figure out how to do that, but it sure has a market.
I've got one in the pond right now that I am expecting to have to pult. And I pulted one last week.
They are ridiculously easy to spot... because they are madly in love with you after three paragraphs. Like that really happens. Ha!
I just think it is criminal to prey on the loney.
Peggy's comment is a very sad commentary on our times. One must be very careful because these predators can be inside your life in the blink of an electron.
ReplyDeleteI hope he wasn't able to access any of your bank accounts or anything. It's too bad that there are people out there like that.
ReplyDeleteI hope you find your frog prince soon, so you don't have to deal with anymore like him.
Churlita-- I do not keep any financial information in my computer. I always use a pre-paid card with a limited amount on it to purchase on line... and only load on what I need to spend. Nor do I have my social security number or anything else in my computer. I am a paranoid person.
ReplyDeleteCube-- I agree. It's terrible. I've always been a bit paranoid and suspicious of people... this certainly does not help.
ReplyDeleteCreep! People are unbelievable, but you have done all the right things.
ReplyDeleteThere have alwasy been scammers, but surely the internet makes it easier.
Fortunately, in karmic balance, there are plenty of good and decent people out there too. Just talk to them instead ;-)
laura b.-- I couldn't agree more! There are a lot of wonderful people out there. I just wanted to get some record of this weirdness to show people. Most of my frogs are very nice men. I'm glad that people like his are more of an exception than the rule.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't wearing my glasses so I was squinting at laura b.'s comment and I thought I read scanners instead of scammers. I thought for a second, "Yikes, Ananda Girl's problem is waaaay more serious." ;-)
ReplyDeleteAhhh, the dangers of a vivid imagination.
Cube-- Ah the dangers of eyes without glasses! I have that trouble myself sister. Sometimes it ends up funny, sometimes not.
ReplyDeleteHmmm, it's good to see how bad scammers work so I can improve my own scams ;) Joking Joking of course.
ReplyDeleteSad that all he does is manipulate people. There are better ways to make a living! Take something like investment banking... that is an honest living that pays well.
Sorry it took me so long to get over here. You shouldn't have anything to worry about unless you opened an e-mail attachment or accepted a file attachment from him. If it was Google Talk or any other chat client, you're safe. Feel better?
ReplyDeleteAlienCG-- Thank you... Yes, yes I do now! I knew you would know the answer. I was in yahoo chat. So Yay! I'm good to continue safely. Cool beans, AlienCG.
